Personal Profile

Julia Hamilton Knox graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1993 and founded the Learning Rights organization. She worked at the Disability Rights Legal Center (LRLC) for over five years. During this formative period, the urgent need for an independent organization focused on educational equity became evident, leading to the establishment of LRLC as an independent entity in 2005. For over 15 years, she served as Executive Director or Co-Executive Director. From 2005 to 2012 and in 2020, she was Executive Director, overseeing operations, including attorney supervision, fundraising, human resources, board management, grant writing, and strategic planning. From 2012 to 2019, Ms. Knox served as Co-Executive Director of LRLC, managing litigation operations, focusing on litigation practice, working more closely with clients, and supervising other LRLC attorneys providing direct advocacy.
